When a building owner or a business needs to transport a large object, one that a courier service can not handle, then he or she must make use of one of the many haulage companies. A dependable hauler/haulier can show proof that he or she carries an adequate level of insurance. At the same time, that company should be able to produce evidence that its workers have accumulated a wealth of experience.
The Egyptians forced slaves to haul huge stones, in order to build the pyramids. Several events that are tied to more recent history help to focus on the important role of the transport vehicle that comes equipped to handle a large and heavy load. For example, the Bradley fighting machine rested on such a vehicle, as it was carried from the Pennsylvania plant where it had been constructed. Such fighting machines helped to insure the victory of the U.S. and its allies, during the completion of Operation Desert Storm in 1991.
Much earlier, in 1967 to be exact, Glenn Seaborg, a scientist and winner of a Nobel Prize had spoken about the future role of the hauling industry, while at the ceremony that opened the Peach Bottom Atomic Station. He had indicated that the same industry would help the world to meet the requirements of an expanding population. He appreciated the extent to which haulage could help to guarantee a satisfaction of society’s rising expectations.
The haulage of big objects became a primary concern at a spot not far from Peach Bottom in the year 1991. At that time the County Historical Society wanted to open a museum, one that would focus on the local agricultural and industrial heritage. One item that was to be placed in that museum was a huge flywheel. When a worker stood next to that flywheel, the top of his head rested on a line that fell well below the line running through the wheel’s center. That fact manages to point out the role that the hauler/haulier played in assemblage of the items in that same Pennsylvania museum.
Finally, history has demonstrated the great risk taken by the men and women who sit behind the wheel of any transport that does heavy hauling. A sad example illustrates that fact, and it comes again from the Keystone State. In 1998 four tanks with compressed air exploded at the York International plant. Those tanks represented just exactly the sort of thing that must be carried by the flatbed used during a typical haulage operation.
